Charlie has been fantastic after my hip replacement, just can't recommend him enough. He was very patient with me while encouraging me with new exercises, and has really helped my confidence to move forward. I've made progress much quicker than I thought I would and that's all thanks to Charlie.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation at Home
Surgery is only the first step. The quality of your rehabilitation in the weeks that follow has a huge influence on the final result, whether you have had a knee or hip replacement, spinal surgery or a fracture fixed.
We follow your surgeon's protocol, manage swelling and pain, restore range of movement and rebuild strength, all without you having to arrange transport while you are unable to drive.
We also offer pre-operative 'prehab' so that you go into surgery as strong and as prepared as possible.
Rehabilitation is protocol-led: we work from your surgeon's guidance for the operation you have had, and progress each stage only when your movement, swelling and strength say you are ready. That discipline is what protects the surgical result while still moving you forward as fast as is safe.
Available across Southampton, Portsmouth, Fareham, Winchester, Salisbury and everywhere in between.

What Your Recovery Programme Includes
The detail depends on the operation, but the framework is consistent:
- Early swelling and pain management so exercises are productive
- Restoring range of movement, including the full straightening that matters so much after knee surgery
- Progressive strengthening in line with your surgeon's protocol
- Walking re-education, from frame to sticks to unaided
- Milestones for stairs, driving and returning to activity
- Pre-operative 'prehab' where surgery is still ahead of you

Who This Helps
People recovering from hip and knee replacements, spinal surgery, fracture fixation, shoulder repairs and similar orthopaedic procedures, at exactly the stage when travelling to a clinic is hardest.
You are typically advised not to drive for several weeks after lower-limb surgery, and even being a passenger can be uncomfortable. Home treatment removes that barrier entirely and lets us check swelling and wound healing at every visit.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation FAQs
Anything else? Ask us directly. A physiotherapist answers every enquiry.
For most joint replacements, within days of coming home. Early movement is part of the protocol. We pick up wherever the hospital left off.
Yes, and it is worth it: going into surgery with better strength and movement consistently improves how quickly you recover afterwards.
Always. Where anything is unclear we contact the surgical team rather than guess, and we report progress back at follow-up milestones if you wish.
It depends on the operation and your insurer. A common benchmark is being able to perform an emergency stop comfortably. We help you build up to that and tell you honestly when you are close.
No. We bring resistance bands and anything else the protocol needs, and the early weeks mostly use your own furniture: a firm chair, a step and a clear stretch of hallway go a long way.
Tell us straight away. We check the operated area at every visit, know what normal healing looks like at each stage, and will contact your surgical team or advise an urgent review if anything concerns us.
Yes. Prehabilitation, building strength and range before surgery, is one of the best predictors of a smooth recovery. We can also keep you as strong as possible if your operation is postponed.
Hear From Our Clients
Emily is a lovely, engaging, patient and knowledgeable physiotherapist. Her time with my husband during his acute stroke recovery phase has been invaluable. Emily researched and adapted her sessions and exercises to my husband's specific requests and needs. Thank you Emily :-)
I had my first appointment with Charlie last month after coming out of hospital with 5 vertebral fractures. Barely able to walk or do anything for myself. Now 7 weeks later I'm able to walk unaided and do everything to look after myself.
This year my long term orthopaedic conditions and my vestibular migraine have been particularly troublesome. But thanks to Charlie's professional guidance my mobility is greatly improved and I am feeling much more confident when out and about.
After being let down by the NHS I was delighted to find South Coast Physio and it was a real bonus that they come to the home. Emily is skilled, helpful, friendly and solutions focused, providing the 1-1 support my daughter needs.
Professional, reliable and caring. The support from Charlie, our physio, has been invaluable.
Cannot praise them enough! Comprehensive and professional treatment plans that inspire you.
Enormously helpful advice and encouragement. I couldn't recommend more highly.
