Why Rehabilitation Around Surgery Matters

Good rehabilitation before and after surgery shortens recovery and improves the final result. We support people through knee and hip replacements, shoulder repairs, spinal surgery and fracture fixation, all without you having to arrange transport while you cannot drive.

Prehabilitation builds strength and movement before your operation so you recover faster. Afterwards, structured, protocol-led physiotherapy restores range of movement, reduces swelling and rebuilds strength. The weeks after surgery largely determine the outcome you get from it.

Prehab Pays You Back Twice

The fitter you go into an operation, the smoother you come out: better strength going in means earlier walking, fewer complications and less to rebuild. Even three or four weeks of targeted work before surgery makes a measurable difference.

A prehab block also sorts the practical side: practising with the walking aids you will use on day one, and setting up chairs, bed and bathroom so the house is ready before you are discharged into it.

The First Fortnight Sets the Tone

Modern surgery discharges you in days, which means the make-or-break early rehabilitation happens at home. The habits formed in the first fortnight (how you walk, how you pace, whether the exercises actually happen) echo through the whole recovery.

We visit within days of discharge, pick up exactly where the hospital left off, and progress you week by week against your surgeon's protocol.

One Plan, Shared With Your Surgeon

We read your discharge letter, follow your surgical protocol to the letter, and report progress back at the milestones your consultant cares about. NHS or private, and whichever hospital: the plan is one continuous line from operation to independence.

Pre & Post-Op Rehab FAQs

As soon as you have a date. Even a few weeks helps. We target the muscles that will do the work afterwards and prepare your home for the return.

Hip and knee replacements most commonly, plus shoulder surgery, spinal surgery and fracture fixation. For hips and knees we also have dedicated in-depth guides on our hip replacement and knee replacement pages.

Usually within 48 hours of discharge. Contact us before the operation and we will pencil the first visit around your expected discharge date.

Always, and where anything is unclear we contact the surgical team rather than guess. With your permission we send progress updates ahead of your follow-ups.

Usually, yes. A fresh assessment finds what was left unfinished (strength, movement or confidence) and a focused block of rehabilitation often makes surprising progress even long after surgery.
