Charlie has been fantastic after my hip replacement, just can't recommend him enough. He was very patient with me while encouraging me with new exercises, and has really helped my confidence to move forward. I've made progress much quicker than I thought I would and that's all thanks to Charlie.

Back Pain Physiotherapy at Home
Expert assessment and treatment for lower back pain in your own home across Hampshire.

Why Staying Active Matters With Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people see a physiotherapist, and it can interfere with sleep, work and family life. We identify what is driving it and build a clear plan to settle the pain and keep you moving.
The vast majority of back pain is mechanical (related to how the joints, muscles and discs are moving and loading) and not caused by anything serious. Staying active and following a guided exercise programme consistently beats rest alone.
Benefits of Treatment at Home
- No sitting in a car when sitting is the problem
- We assess the chair, bed and tasks that trigger it
- Exercises adapted to your home
- Advice you can apply immediately
What Your Physiotherapy Includes
- A thorough assessment of your spine, hips and movement
- Hands-on treatment to ease pain and stiffness
- Progressive strength and mobility exercises
- Advice on lifting, sitting and sleeping positions
- A plan to prevent recurrence
Most Back Pain Is Mechanical
Back pain can be frightening in a way other pain is not, but the overwhelming majority is mechanical: joints, muscles and discs unhappy about how they are being loaded, in a spine that remains strong and intact. Scans of pain-free adults routinely show bulges and wear; findings alone rarely explain pain.
A careful assessment rules out the rare serious causes, explains what is actually going on in your case, and replaces fear with a plan, because a back you are afraid of is a back that stiffens and hurts more.

Moving Early Beats Resting By a Distance
Bed rest was the standard advice for decades, and it was wrong. Backs recover faster with early, graded movement: positions of ease when it is angry, gentle motion as it settles, then progressive strengthening so it can take real life again.
We guide the dose day by day, including what to do at 3am when it seizes, which is when most of the fear takes hold.
Your Chair, Your Bed, Your Lifting
Back pain lives in the details of your day: the sofa you sink into, the mattress, the car seat, how you lift the grandchildren or the shopping. Treating you at home means we see and fix the actual triggers rather than guessing at them from a clinic.

Back Pain FAQs
Usually not. Most back pain does not need imaging, and incidental findings (bulges, degeneration) appear in most pain-free adults over 40, which makes scans misleading more often than helpful. We tell you clearly if your particular pattern is one that warrants investigation.
Discs do not slip; the phrase describes a bulge or herniation pressing near a nerve. Most settle well without surgery, and even confirmed herniations usually improve with time and graded rehabilitation.
Yes, at the right dose: movement is part of the treatment. Hurt does not equal harm in mechanical back pain; we show you which sensations to respect and which to work through.
Most episodes improve substantially within six weeks. Our job is to speed that up, keep you functioning meanwhile, and, most importantly, build the strength and habits that make the next episode less likely.
Rarely, but new numbness in the saddle area, changes to bladder or bowel control, or leg weakness that is progressing need same-day emergency care before any physiotherapy. We screen for these at every assessment.
Your First Appointment
A relaxed but thorough conversation about how things started and what you want to get back to, followed by a physical assessment. You will leave with a clear explanation, a plan and your first exercises, and we will agree how often we should visit.

Hear From Our Clients
Emily is a lovely, engaging, patient and knowledgeable physiotherapist. Her time with my husband during his acute stroke recovery phase has been invaluable. Emily researched and adapted her sessions and exercises to my husband's specific requests and needs. Thank you Emily :-)
I had my first appointment with Charlie last month after coming out of hospital with 5 vertebral fractures. Barely able to walk or do anything for myself. Now 7 weeks later I'm able to walk unaided and do everything to look after myself.
This year my long term orthopaedic conditions and my vestibular migraine have been particularly troublesome. But thanks to Charlie's professional guidance my mobility is greatly improved and I am feeling much more confident when out and about.
After being let down by the NHS I was delighted to find South Coast Physio and it was a real bonus that they come to the home. Emily is skilled, helpful, friendly and solutions focused, providing the 1-1 support my daughter needs.
Professional, reliable and caring. The support from Charlie, our physio, has been invaluable.
Cannot praise them enough! Comprehensive and professional treatment plans that inspire you.
Enormously helpful advice and encouragement. I couldn't recommend more highly.
