Charlie has been fantastic after my hip replacement, just can't recommend him enough. He was very patient with me while encouraging me with new exercises, and has really helped my confidence to move forward. I've made progress much quicker than I thought I would and that's all thanks to Charlie.

Shoulder Pain Physiotherapy at Home
Rotator cuff problems, frozen shoulder and post-injury pain, assessed and treated at home.

Why Accurate Assessment Matters for Shoulders
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which also makes it vulnerable. Whether it is a rotator cuff problem, a frozen shoulder or pain after a fall, we can diagnose and treat it at home.
Shoulder pain can come from the tendons, the joint capsule, the joint surfaces or the neck, and each responds to a different approach. Identifying the source is the first step; a combination of manual therapy and graded strengthening then restores pain-free movement.
Benefits of Treatment at Home

What Your Physiotherapy Includes

Four Different Problems, One Word: 'Shoulder'
Rotator cuff problems, frozen shoulder, joint arthritis and pain referred from the neck all present as 'shoulder pain', and each needs a different plan. Getting the diagnosis right first is the difference between steady progress and months of the wrong exercises.
Our assessment separates them with careful testing, and we explain what you have and what the realistic course looks like.

Frozen Shoulder: The Honest Version
Frozen shoulder is miserable and self-limiting: it moves through freezing, frozen and thawing phases over many months. Physiotherapy cannot rush the biology, but it makes each phase considerably more liveable: calming pain early, keeping what movement you have, then rebuilding strength and range as it thaws.
Beware anyone promising a quick fix, and know that a steroid injection in the early painful phase can be genuinely helpful, which we will say if it applies to you.
Sleeping With a Sore Shoulder
Night pain is often the worst part of a shoulder problem and the fastest thing to improve with the right positioning: pillow support for the arm, and a few adjustments we work out on your own bed. Protecting your sleep also speeds everything else up.

Shoulder Pain FAQs
Usually not. Many tears, especially age-related ones, do very well with progressive strengthening, and plenty of pain-free shoulders have tears on scans. Surgery has its place for specific tears in specific people; rehabilitation is the right first step for most.
Typically 12 to 24 months across its phases, an honest number most people are not given. Physiotherapy makes each phase more manageable and speeds the final rebuild; an early steroid injection can help the painful phase.
Keep using it within comfort. Shoulders stiffen and weaken remarkably fast when guarded. We show you which movements to keep, which to modify and how to progress back to full use.
Lying compresses and stretches structures that cope fine upright, and there are no daytime distractions. Positioning changes usually improve it within a couple of weeks, and improving sleep speeds the whole recovery.
It can. The neck refers pain to the shoulder blade and upper arm frequently. Our assessment tests both, so the treatment goes where the problem actually is.

Hear From Our Clients
Emily is a lovely, engaging, patient and knowledgeable physiotherapist. Her time with my husband during his acute stroke recovery phase has been invaluable. Emily researched and adapted her sessions and exercises to my husband's specific requests and needs. Thank you Emily :-)
I had my first appointment with Charlie last month after coming out of hospital with 5 vertebral fractures. Barely able to walk or do anything for myself. Now 7 weeks later I'm able to walk unaided and do everything to look after myself.
This year my long term orthopaedic conditions and my vestibular migraine have been particularly troublesome. But thanks to Charlie's professional guidance my mobility is greatly improved and I am feeling much more confident when out and about.
After being let down by the NHS I was delighted to find South Coast Physio and it was a real bonus that they come to the home. Emily is skilled, helpful, friendly and solutions focused, providing the 1-1 support my daughter needs.
Professional, reliable and caring. The support from Charlie, our physio, has been invaluable.
Cannot praise them enough! Comprehensive and professional treatment plans that inspire you.
Enormously helpful advice and encouragement. I couldn't recommend more highly.
